FULL NAME: Amelia Susan Bones NICKNAME(S): Mellie, Melia, Ame, Bones. AGE/BIRTHDAY: Sixteen / April 26th. BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood. SEXUALITY: Heterosexual. JOURNAL: melliebo |
APPEARANCE: At five foot four, Amelia's certainly not the shortest girl in her year. She's fairly certain that she's not the tallest girl, either. While on the thinner side, Amelia's got her fair share of muscles which have been built through daily Quidditch practices since her first week at Hogwarts in her first year. Amelia's generally wearing the uniform. On the rare occasion when you can catch her out of the uniform, she's often found wearing incredibly casual clothing. Nothing fancy, as she has no reason to dress up. PB: Ksenia Solo. |

PERSONALITY: Amelia Bones has three passions in life: her books, her quidditch, and her dream of becoming an auror. It's not that she wouldn't enjoy becoming a professional quidditch player after Hogwarts, she would, but even more intense is her desire to become an auror. It would be absolutely wondrous to be able to stop the people doing wrong and save the people who are innocent bystanders. The one thing standing between her and her dream of becoming an auror is her outrageous temper. Amelia does not know the first thing about responding calmly to an insult or resisting the urge to deck someone in the face when they quite obviously deserve it. She's never been very good at censoring what comes out of her mouth and has had numerous detentions for her foul language. But if she can simply get her anger under control, she's convinced that she would make a brilliant auror. But, in the mean time, she's simply likely to point out that at least she's using her anger for good and not for evil.
As a Ravenclaw, it surprises no one that Amelia is often found with a book in her lap. On the days when she doesn't have classes for a few hours while most everyone else does, she's usually curled up in a chair in the common room devouring her latest find. The more interesting the subject is, the more religiously she'll study it. As most of her classes that she continued taking after her OWLs are incredibly fascinating to her, Amelia hasn't had very many problems with continuing to do well in her classes since the beginning of the school year. She's often read far more material than is actually necessary to complete an excellent essay. If she were any good at it, she's fairly certain that she'd have started writing stories as well by now.
Quidditch is generally on Amelia's mind. Whether in the back of her mind as she reads or the front of her mind as she obsesses over it to everyone who is willing to listen, it's present. Generally, her days start off with a quick warmup jog followed by an hour on the pitch with a broomstick between her legs. It would be more than an hour, but that's about all the time she has before the official team practices start. And, some days, she finds that the official team practices don't wait until seven to actually begin. Some days, as with her own team, the practices start with the sun.
Despite the fact that she has a short fuse, Amelia's quite a nice girl. She enjoys making new friends, discussions of both important and unimportant topics, and frequently delivers compliments both randomly and when she feels they are deserved. While her violent nature may keep some people at a distance, plenty of people understand that it's only when someone really, truly deserves it (or, you know, when she thinks that someone really, truly deserves it) that she'll take a swing at them. At the very least, becoming a beater for Ravenclaw has certainly diminished the frequency with which Amelia's fists do her talking for her.

HISTORY: Amelia Susan Bones was born the second (but not final) child of Jack and Margaret Bones. While some children born between the eldest child and the baby of the family might find themselves with middle child syndrome, Amelia Bones never felt unwanted or unloved a day in her life (before becoming a teenager, that is). With an older brother like Edgar Bones, it would be impossible to feel anything less than loved and adored. He was her best friend before she even understood the concept of best friends. He was the face that hovered over her the most before she could roll over or crawl. He was the one person that seemed to outweigh even her parents in importance. Edgar Bones was, after all, "Mellie's big brother".
As they grew older, Amelia and Edgar did not precisely grow apart, but they certainly found their own interests in the world. Amelia was inescapably addicted to reading. It didn't matter whether it was fictional, non-fiction, newspapers, magazines, or the bloody dictionary, really. She could be found reading anything and everything that someone left sitting out or on a shelf low enough for her to reach it. (Which is also, coincidentally, how she ended up reading her first far too adult book the summer before she started at Hogwarts.) It wasn't that her only interest lay in books, but she'd often be sucked into the storyline or concept of the book quite solidly by the time the children were allowed to go outside and play. It didn't take long for everyone in the Bones family to realize that once she'd flipped the first page, it would be several hours before she'd pop her head back into the real world.
But, despite her addiction to reading, Amelia managed to go outside to play with her brother quite often. She would wear the rattiest clothes that she had (although, to be fair, she didn't really have many of those at all!) and head outside to play with the boys. It was there, with Edgar, that she learned how to climb trees. It was there, with Edgar (standing by, perhaps in surprise), that she learned how to hold her own against a boy three inches taller than her. It was there, with Edgar, that she learned how to play footie. It was there, with Edgar, that she learned every single thing that didn't come straight out of a book. There were times when the little boys would try and exclude her because she was a girl, but Amelia would hardly stand for that. Perhaps it was more so due to Edgar's insistence that his little sister be allowed to join them than her threats of physical violence, but Amelia was never actually excluded from anything when Edgar was around.
It wasn't that Amelia never played with Simon, the youngest of the Bones siblings, but she simply didn't play with him that much until Edgar went off to Hogwarts as a first year. Her focus had generally been on Edgar and her books, after all, and Simon was just so young that he never seemed to fit into their playtime plans as well as the pair of them did. Edgar and Amelia had had far more time to bond, really. But they played quite well and frequently during Edgar's first year at Hogwarts. She taught him how to throw a punch properly. Jack took the pair of them to a Quidditch game shortly after Edgar left for Hogwarts. Mostly, really, to keep them from moping around the house about their big brother being gone. Both children fell instantly in love with the sport and wouldn't shut up about it for the following year. Amelia became increasingly excited for her first year at Hogwarts. Not only would she be getting her big brother back (even though the lengthy, frequent letters kept her from feeling abandoned), but she'd heard all about the Quidditch teams of Hogwarts.
She was a little sad to leave Simon behind the following September, but not nearly as sad as she might have been to be left behind a second year in a row. Amelia sat right by her big brother on the train ride and, with great reluctance, gave him a hug goodbye when it was time for the first years to be grouped together. While she hadn't been nervous on the train, or on the way to the train, or at any point when Edgar was right there, it was easy to become nervous the moment he'd left her side. She felt properly alone. And a little regretful, really, that she hadn't made an effort to befriend the other first years on the train. Maybe she would have had someone to whisper with in excitement and nervous anticipation if she had. Instead, she simply stood off to the side as she became more nervous by the minute. While it felt like forever before the hat was placed upon her head, it really wasn't very long at all. There were only a few people sorted before she got her turn. She'd been hoping for Hufflepuff, honestly, but was nonetheless pleased to be sorted into a house known for its intelligence. With one reluctant glance in the direction of Hufflepuff, she scurried over to the table that she'd be eating at for the next seven years.
Amelia's first order of business as a first year was to try out for the Quidditch team. Unsurprisingly to everyone else, she didn't make the team. Most of the people watching the tryouts simply laughed at her attempts to try out. It didn't help that she was hardly experienced with flying or Quidditch. But she was not, as she found out at dinner that night, as hopeless at Quidditch as it seemed. One of the chasers from the Quidditch team (a sixth year!) offered to help her improve her skills on the broomstick and, with a smile nearly wider than her face, Amelia accepted the offer quite promptly. She didn't make the team in her second year either, but she did make the team as a reserve in her third year. Halfway through her fourth year, Ravenclaw's captain had her fill in during a practice as one of the beaters. Not with any sort of expectation of skill, but simply because one of the beaters was still in the hospital wing after a rather nasty fall. By the end of practice, her reserve position had been swapped from 'reserve chaser' to 'reserve beater'. At the beginning of fifth year, she became a starting beater on the team.
It was fairly decent timing to become a starting beater, really, as Amelia had been bummed for the first few weeks of school upon realizing that one of the other girls had gotten the position of prefect. It wasn't that she thought she'd had it in the bag, but she'd rather hoped that she would be the one wielding the shiny badge for the last three years of Hogwarts. Of course, to anyone else who knew Amelia, the idea was rather preposterous. Yes, she believed in following the rules and being fair and just, but Amelia's temper often went off in the most violent of ways. Not to mention her inability to stop cursing like a sailor when she'd been irritated to an extreme degree. Still, she'd been rather hoping for it.
Now, as a sixth year, Amelia's quite excited once again. Having been named the new captain of the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team (for leadership, motivational, and innovative talents!), she's pumped and ready to destroy the other teams' this Quidditch season.

QUESTIONS: - What is your idea of perfect happiness? Perfect happiness? A world without violence. Or, if we're going for something that is achievable, a world in which we're happy. We, the Bones, are all happy. Satisfied. Content.
- What is your greatest fear? Well. There's always Edgar dying! I don't imagine I'd be able to survive that anymore than I'd be able to survive the killing curse. Other than that, I can't say I have any fears that qualify as great ones. Other than your run of the mill teenage insecurities, that is.
- What is the trait you most deplore in others? Bigotry. Intolerance. Unjust behaviour. Hypocrites.
- What do you do when you get nervous? I usually start repeating a mantra in my head. Sometimes it's along the lines of "it's almost over, it's almost over, it's almost over" and sometimes it's along the lines of "it won't happen, it won't happen, it won't happen". Although, to be fair, it's definitely been along the lines of "kiss me, kiss me, kiss me" before. But I am a silly teenager! Even if sometimes I don't feel much like one.
- What do you do when you get angry? Attack the source of my anger. Whether with fists or verbal abuse. I don't tend to let things that make me angry get away without some retribution.
- What do you do when you are happy? Sing. Dance. Smile. Hug. I'm just very affectionate and joyful when I'm happy.
- What do you do when you are sad? I haven't the foggiest what sort of question that is! What else do people do when they're sad? I cry. Sometimes alone, sometimes with others. Sometimes I bottle it up and keep the tears back, but they always come. Sooner or later.
- Do you have any interesting habits? Habits? Are we talking about the sort of habits where I fold over the corner of the page to mark my spot in books -- something that quite aggravates many other Ravenclaws, I might add! -- or the sort of habits like smoking? Not that I smoke. I've never understood the appeal of cigarettes in the slightest. But I certainly do have my vices. Ones much stronger than "damaging" the library books. I've been known to curse like a sailor when it comes to Quidditch related failures. I've been known to physically attack others who have been hurting me, my brother, or my friends. I... have plenty of bad habits, but I have a few good ones too? I won't tell a lie that isn't necessary. I always pick up trash that's been left laying around. I... well, I've probably answered this question as well as I can, really!
- On what occasion do you lie? Oh, well, if only I'd seen this question before I'd answered the last! I would have saved that answer for this one. I don't lie. Unless, of course, it's a necessity. If someone else has told me a secret and told me I've got to keep it, then I'm going to keep the secret. Even if it means lying when someone else asks about it. To protect someone's safety, I'll lie repeatedly. To protect someone's reputation (well, at least, when they deserve to have their reputation protected), I'll also lie repeatedly. I'm not a stupid girl, I won't lie for no reason. But I will lie when I have to. Always.
- If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? My hair. It's wild and untameable and I've been told on numerous occasions that if only I'd been born a ginger with a red nose, I'd make the perfect clown.
- What do you consider your greatest achievement? Becoming the Captain of the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team. As a sixth year, even! I can't tell you how bloody excited I was to realize that I was actually going to be the captain for my last two years of school. Honestly, I thought maybe someone else would snatch it away and I wouldn't have the chance for another year. If I even got the chance in a year. Not that I doubt my own abilities as a Quidditch player nor do I doubt my abilities as a captain, but sometimes there is that little niggling doubt in the back of your mind of what if you don't get it? that you can't quite get rid of.
- What is your greatest regret? I don't believe in regrets. You do the best you can and you accept that whatever experience you've gained from it was worth doing whatever you've done. Regardless of whether you completely fucked up in doing it or not. If you could change your past, you'd also change your future. I wouldn't want to do that. I'm quite all right with how my future (well, current!) is.
- What is your motto? Free hugs if I've won the game. Free punches if I've lost it.
